Report: Pelicans picking up option on Gentry’s pact

The New Orleans Pelicans have informed coach Alvin Gentry that the option on his contract is being picked up for the 2018-19 season, according to a report.

Fresh off a sweep of the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of the playoffs, the New Orleans Pelicans have informed coach Alvin Gentry that the franchise will be picking up the $4 million option on his contract of the 2018-19 season, according to a report.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported Pelicans General Manager Dell Demps told Gentry of the franchise’s decision prior to the sweep of Portland.

Gentry signed a four-year deal with the Pelicans with a team in option back in 2015.

His staff of associated head coach Darren Erman and fellow assistants Chris Finch and Fred Vinson also had the options on their contracts picked up, according to Wojnarowski.

The Pelicans will pay the winner of the series between the Golden State Warriors and the San Antonio Spurs in a second-round series. The defending-champion Warriors lead that series, 3-1.
