Report: Messina, Fizdale top choices for Hornets

Ettore Messina and David Fizdale are the leading candidates to become the next head coach of the Charlotte Hornets, according to a report.

The Charlotte Hornets are planning on interviewing former Memphis coach David Fizdale and San Antonio assistant Ettore Messina for their head coaching job, according to a report.

Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports Fizdale and Messina are considered the top two candidates to be new Hornets general manager Mitch Kupchak’s choice to replace the fired Steve Clifford as coach of the Hornets.

Fizdale, fired by the Grizzlies earlier this season, has already interviewed for openings with the New York Knicks and the Phoenix Suns.

Messina coach the Spurs in their Game 3 playoff loss to defending champion Golden State after the death of coach Gregg Popovich’s wife, Erin, and will so again in Game 4 on Sunday.
